Welcome to the Fisheries and Illinois Aquaculture Center, a research center
of the Graduate School &
Office of the Vice Chancellor for
Research at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. We
serve the university, region, state, and nation as a teaching and research
facility with fish ecologists, geneticists, culturists, toxicologists, and
physiologists among our ranks. All faculty have joint appointments in
the Department of Zoology.
Visit SIUC's
Perspectives magazine for an overview of the history of our research
program. Southern Illinois is a great location for fisheries, fish
biology, and
aquatic research, with many lakes, streams, and rivers in which to
work.
Our students
participate in extramurally funded fish and fisheries-related research and also are active
professionally in national and international societies. This
training is critical for developing future generations of fisheries
scientists, with an emphasis on the management and conservation of
fisheries and aquatic resources. Our students leave our program with a solid conceptual
background, practical experience, and critical thinking skills.
Please
surf our site and provide us with comments. We hope that
you enjoy your visit and perhaps learn something about fish, fisheries and
aquaculture on the way.
