Michael Lydy is currently a Professor in the Department of Zoology and a member of the Fisheries and Illinois Aquaculture Center at Southern Illinois University. He received his B.S. in Chemistry from Wittenberg University in 1984, an M.S. in Zoology in 1986 from Miami University (Ohio), and a Ph.D. in Zoology from the Ohio State University in 1990. He spent three years with the U.S. Geological Survey in Indianapolis, Indiana and six years at Wichita State University prior to arriving at SIUC. His areas of research interest include evaluating the effects of chemical mixtures, developing a basic understanding of the chemical and biological factors affecting toxicity, bioavailability and bioaccumulation, remediation of contaminated sites and evaluating the effectiveness of Best Management Practices in reducing pesticide and nutrient loadings into aquatic systems. Dr. Lydy have received funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, industry and state sources to conduct research in these areas.
