Dr. Jesse Trushenski recently joined the Department of Zoology
and Fisheries and Illinois Aquaculture Center (FIAC) faculty, but is no
new-comer to aquaculture research or SIUC. After receiving a B.S. in Biology
from Western Washington University (2002), she came to SIUC to conduct her
dissertation work addressing the joint influence of stress and natural source
vitamin E on innate immunity of hybrid striped bass. She received a Ph.D. from
the Department of Zoology in 2006, and remained with the FIAC while developing
her research interests. Dr. Trushenski has conducted applied studies
investigating nutriceuticals and alternative feedstuffs in aquafeeds, as well as
basic research to describe metabolism and other physiological processes in
fishes. Her overarching research theme is to use robust analytical approaches
to develop practical solutions for the aquaculture industry. Current research
interests include nutritional and environmental influences on processes of
growth, immunity and stress tolerance, and reproduction in aquatic species.
Dr. Trushenski also maintains an active record of professional service to the
U.S. Aquaculture and American Fisheries Societies, and in 2009 she will assume
the presidency of the AFS Fish Culture Section.
